Community orchestras and bands: There are not necessarily openings for percussion at the moment, but you might contact these groups regarding future concerts. They are usually looking for percussion help! Students of all ages should consider these opportunities.

They offer a drop-in Instructional Blues Jam every other Friday evening from 7 to 11pm (cost: $8.00 – no age restriction). A drum set is provided – but you should bring your own cymbals. Spotlight Studios also offers a “Jam Academy” which is a 4-week course (1.5 hrs. per session). Participants are matched with other players (of similar skill level) to form a band and then will pick several tunes to learn and develop throughout the course.

This is a NEW community jazz orchestra, which is comprised of the standard big band instrumentation (including a rhythm section: drumset, marimba, vibes). This band will eventually do gigs around the Seattle and surrounding areas, help the local high school and middle school jazz programs, as well as hold fundraisers for the homeless and for those less fortunate. Rehearsals are held every Sat., 5-7pm at the Union Gospel Mission located on Capital Hill. No minimum age requirement – but should have at least an intermediate ability as a drummer and/or percussion player.
