OLYMPIC PRODUCTIONS GUIDE FOR BANDS

ORIGINAL BAND INFORMATION:

Thanks for your interest. At this time, Olympic Productions (IWANTABAND.COM) is primarily a booking agency. That means we book musicians and entertainers for live events (weddings, parties, company promotions, clubs, etc.). We are not involved in promotion that much, at this time. We do welcome any PR you have (information, website, recordings-CD/Tape/Mp3, etc.) for our files. Try to give us an idea of what your goals are: playing gigs, making money, recording, etc. We may be able to recommend ways of getting you on your way.

We are actively submitting music to FILMS and TELEVISION.

If you have originals you would like to submit, feel free, and let us know that you are interested in music licensing.

You are welcome to email any files. (SMALL JPGs, GIFs, or text-Please do not send formatted files)

Here's some basic ideas...

Do you play originals or covers??? Combination bands possible, but consider that a casual (cover) band's goal is generally to make money. You may consider TWO bands for your goals.

We get calls and email all the time fro entertainers asking for help in their careers. Hopefully, the following information can help you in in the short and long term. When you do have a solid PR packet, send us one for future booking opportunities. If you're not sure about how to put a PR packet together, we can email you PR packet submission ideas.

1) EDUCATE YOURSELF. Start by reading books and magazines about the entertainment business. See the list at the end.

2) NETWORK, NETWORK, NETWORK. Get to know your fellow entertainers. Look under musicians, entertainers, etc., in the phone book and internet. Try the musicians union (American Federation of Musicians-AFM), performing organizations (Percussive Arts Society (PAS), etc.), and non-profit organizations (City, County, State Arts Commissions/Councils). There might be musicians co-ops and organizations (Victory Music, South by Southwest, etc.) Look in current magazines for lists of these groups.

3) PLAN. Have a plan. If your not sure what to do, I recommend reading "Wishcraft". It is a paperback all about "want" vs. "have to". Consider that when you are a kid, you do things you want to do. You grow up only to do things you have to do. Most of us have a goal, eventually, of getting back to doing things we want to do! Before going out and spending $10,000 on a recording and then having to sell the product, you might want to figure out a way of making that recording without risk. Then you'll have a recording that you can sell at ease, and actually make money. In the end, it is very easy to spend money, but much harder to make it!

4) GUERILLA FINANCING. Try this idea: Beg, borrow or steal a 4-track tape recorder ($100 & up) or digital recording device ($300 & up) and some mics. Everybody's got this stuff. You can buy it for a couple hundred dollars (low risk). Make a tape of your stuff. Make dubs on your home deck or have tapes/CDs made. Generally this should cost $1-2/each. Make a nice cover. Get friends to help design it on their PC. Everybody's got those, too! SELL the tapes at shows and to friends. 100 tapes (at a cost of $200) will yeild $1000 (at 10/each). You now have $800 free and clear to MAKE the next batch or the next tape! Eventually, you will make enough money to MAKE a great master tape AND cover the cost of duplication! Then you can GIVE AWAY to product to radio stations, etc., or sell it for ANOTHER PROJECT!

5) GUERILLA MARKETING. Using the same advice from above, you can brainstorm ways of promoting your services (shows) and products (CDs/tapes). See the book series "Guerilla Marketing" for more details.

6) BE CREATIVE. You are already creative in your music. All you really need to do, is take that creativity and apply it to your business. The real problem out there, is everyone learns how to PLAY their instrument (or their art), but very few artists learn how to MAKE MONEY (run a business). If we all spend 50% of our time learning how to run a business (entrepreneurial skills), we would be successful. Whether your goal is to run your business, or get someone else to, you still need to learn HOW. When artists start screaming that they've been ripped off, it is because they were ignorant of the situation. Take that negative experience and make it positive, but EDUCATING YOURSELF!!! Oz has spoken.
